Varanus Mitchelli

Mitchell's water monitors

Mitchell's water monitors are a fascinating semi-aquatic species from the Odatria complex. These true dwarf monitors are native to Northern Australia and are highly sought after by reptile enthusiasts for their unique appearance and fascinating behavior.

At Rare Reptiles we are proud to work with a CBB (captive-born and bred) group. We are committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our animals, and we take great care to provide them with a vivarium that mimics their natural habitat in the wild.

In 2022, Rare Reptiles was fortunate enough to have two clutches of Varanus mitchelli hatch successfully. We are thrilled to have been able to contribute to the preservation of this rare and sought-after species in captivity, while also providing other hobbyists with the opportunity to own these majestic creatures.

Breeding Varanus mitchelli is a complex process that involves careful attention to the lizards' husbandry, diet, and environmental conditions. We spared no expense in ensuring that our breeding program was of the highest quality, and the results speak for themselves. We worked tirelessly to replicate the natural breeding conditions of these lizards, ensuring that they were healthy, happy, and ready to breed.

After the females laid their clutches of eggs, we carefully incubated them at the optimal temperature and humidity levels. The incubation took over 200 days, we were overjoyed to see healthy, active baby Varanus mitchelli emerge from their shells.

As a responsible and ethical breeder, we take great care to ensure that all of our animals are healthy, happy, and well-cared for. We believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that these amazing creatures are protected for future generations to enjoy.

We are proud to have been able to make these baby Varanus mitchelli available to other hobbyists. We believe that these incredible monitors have a lot to offer, both in terms of their beauty and their unique behaviors. We hope that by sharing our passion for these animals with others, we can help raise awareness about the importance of conservation and responsible breeding practices

If you're looking for a unique and fascinating addition to your reptile collection, Mitchell's water monitors are an excellent choice. These semi-aquatic monitors have a distinctive appearance, and they have fascinating behavior, unlike other Dwarf monitors including swimming and diving in the water.
